Cuphea hyssopifolia, which you might know by the name false heather, is a popular shrub grown for its attractive foliage and delicate flowers. The twiggy stems are covered in dense shrubbery of dark or light green leaves. In the warm seasons, masses of star shaped flowers cover the shrub. Their compact growth makes them excellent edging plants, and with some judicious pruning their neat growth can be maintained. Their bushy habit also make them perfect, elegant pot plants. Cuphea must be protected from heavy frost and they require generous watering in the heat of the summer. Cuphea are graceful shrubs and fit seamlessly into any formal landscape or topiary garden.
